Clay Sponge Pad Review

Recently I've being supplied by Kalex Car Detailing to test out a new clay sponge pad which just newly arrived in Malaysia's automotive care product.

The car used for this clay pad review is a Honda City. It was left aside and rarely used so it has lots of waterspot on the whole car.

The paint is inspected in this picture :Mainly waterspot and swirls

The tool used are as below : The clay pad & a quick detailer as a clay lube.

The clay pad is too adhesive to be used on paint directly so had to loosen it by claying the glass first. (Instruction by similiar clay pad, Autoscrub at http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-101/53182-nanoskin-autoscrub.html )
So I did a test at the window to loosen its adhesive. Really strong adhesive in the beginning.

After loosening its adhesiveness its time to clay the paint with a movement using similiar to that of clay bar. The after result are as shown : Type 1 waterspot are removed by the clay pad

Now that we have seen the type 1 waterspot removed, now its time to test it with "Plastic test" to check if it has removed the contamination on the paint.

In the end, it passed the plastic test with a smooth drag, the surface feels really smooth. This shows that this clay pad can really decontaminate just like a clay bar. Plus from a 1 hour clay process, it only took me 30minutes to clay the whole car! Thats 1 time saver product which are important as the slogan goes "Time is money".

Conclusion : 
-This clay pad quicken the whole clay process by nearly half the time!
-Decontaminate just like a clay bar.
-More durable than a clay bar too! (Dropped it? Don't worry, just clean it with breeze water)
-Its adhesiveness of clay pad could handle 2 cars well.
-Only RM55/pad which is worth the cost for such benefit.

Full Correction On Toyota Kluger

Car : Toyota Kluger aka Highlander
Year : 2000
Client Desire : Make this car looks shiny and better.
Service Recommended : Full paint correction.
Reason : Because paint are dull and turns yellowish with hazing.

Now let the story begins...

The car had just arrived at our porch. 
(NOTE: ITS SLIGHTLY YELLOW)
 


The car looks quite in a good condition until upon further inspection..
here's what we found on the rear side of the car..OMG what a scratch!

Minor swirls on paint too.

On the front we found out the headlamp is yellowish hazing.

After founding the hazing headlamp, Its time to make this headlamp clear first
as the wetsand process would be messy.
The headlamp is then sand down from 800, 1000, 1200, 1500 grit.

After wet sanding of headlamp, I decided to polish off the sanding mark later on.
And proceeded to washing of whole car.
First, I clean the tire by rinsing it. Look how much dirt from the mud guard inside.

2nd, wiping of grease, brake dust, dirts etc on rim and inside compartment.

3rd, cleaning of small parts with brush for a detail cleanliness.

After cleaning of wheels, I proceeded to washing & drying of whole car.
A cleaned and dried car.

Now its time to decontaminate the car with clay. For today's car I'll
be using clay pad.

  

Eventually its time to chemically decontaminate. Dissolving iron particles that couldn't be removed during wash and clay process to ensure full decontamination. (Full decontamination are standard for coating) *THIS IS OPTIONAL FOR NON-COATING PROCESS

Chemical decontamination used : Rust Zero aka IronX of Korea.

The effect of chemical decontamination, the car is bleeding!

After decontamination, its time to handle the big scratch at the rear right side of car. 

  

After lots of aggresive rubbing compound application, the scratch visibility are reduced with sanding marks.

It took 3 hours to solve the scratch problem on the whole car. Job continues the next day.

Time to inspect paint thickness before compounding (Deeper defects : Rids, scratch, waterspot) & Polishing (Minor defects : swirls & hologram)

Paint is in a very healthy state and thick, enough space for cutting/compouding & polishing .

After finishing compounding, the car shows better reflection than it was before.

The next day the car was washed with degreaser chemical as substitute to IPA to remove

polishing oil which could lead to decrease durability of wax, sealant or coating on paint.

After degreasing, its time to inspect the paint for any swirl. The result is great!

And finally, its sealant time. 1 year protection layer as base and topping with a shiny protection.
